FNC is the people at The Factory every Sunday night!
Some people have been at FNC for long time, some are relatively recent members.
Kirby fits into the second category for the best of reasons…

Name: Kirby B..
Kirby, How long have you been at FNC?
Since July last year [2006], so about 11 months
How long have you been a Christian?
Since July last year, so about 11 months
Fantastic! How did that come about?
I was invited on a Youthworks HSC Study Camp by a couple of Christian friends. I went along with no concrete beliefs about the world or purpose or why we are here, but God opened my heart and mind and allowed the initiation of belief, questioning and understanding.
In the talks every afternoon I would hear about broad concepts involving life and Christianity, what it meant to be a Christian, how to become a Christian, the Christian way to live. I was definitely intrigued by the latter subject, for to me it just made so much sense.
I agreed with what was said – that was the way I wanted to live!
I could also see the impact God had on my friends in my room group – He was so real to them. I could tell they had something I didn’t.
I was invited to FNC and have been going ever since, becoming more and more involved. Attending Confirmation Classes last year helped a great deal with my growth and development as a Christian.
I wouldn’t put becoming a Christian down to a defining moment but a gradual process with lots of learning (which is still happening and I think will always will).
What’s your favourite food?
I normally say ice-cream but it’s winter so I’m more in the mood for home-made soup with crusty bread. Mmmm.
What are you reading in the Bible at the moment?
Leviticus (I’ve just finished Genisis and Exodus) but have also been going through Colossians with my uni bible study group.
What else are you reading at the moment?
Barbara Hughes’s Disciplines of a Godly Woman, Philip Yancey’s What’s So Amazing About Grace?, and Pacey’s Rainwater Harvesting in Turkana (it’s for an assignment – honest).
What’s the best thing about being a Christian?
The awesome and encouraging community that I find myself a part of. It’s what being a Christian is all about – having relationships that are modelled by the word of God.
We’re not perfect in this, but as we strive for the common goal to be pleasing in the Lord’s sight and with the common hope of something better than this world and an eternity with our loving creator, we are all united and we are all one huge family – such an amazing community to be actively involved in. :D

1Hi Kirby,
I love your passion in being a part of God’s kingdom and enjoying that community here in this world! Praise God for his grace and that he had mercy on you, a sinner. Keep on striving to live for him every day!
Are you planning to read through the OT? Keep on going with it. I’m doing the same thing, I’m up to 2 Chronicles. Sometimes it is hard to read and seems brain numbing, but I have been constantly amazed at God’s faithfulness to his rebellious people. I am even more amazed that he sent Jesus to redeem, not only Israel, but us Gentile pagans as well!

2Hey guys, speaking of reading through the O.T. (and indeed the whole Bible!), have you seen Don Carson’s ‘For the love of God’ ?
A fantastic way of reading through the Bible in one or two years… See me if you want to borrow a copy…

3Thanks for your comments guys – tis greatly encouraging!
Neil, I was given Don Carson’s book as a gift at my baptism last year and started it at the beginning of this year. I gave it a go but to be honest I found it a bit hard and disjointed when reading four books of the Bible at once. Though while I’m not following the schedule of the book, I still read the commentaries and find them to be quite helpful :)

4It’s cool Kirby that you now get to lead on the camp that played such a part in your becoming a Christian. Let’s be praying that God works in hearts again this year.
