FNC is the people at The Factory every Sunday night!
Some people have been at FNC for long time, some are relatively recent members.
Kirby fits into the second category for the best of reasons…

Kirby B.
Name: Kirby B..

Kirby, How long have you been at FNC?
Since July last year [2006], so about 11 months

How long have you been a Christian?
Since July last year, so about 11 months

Fantastic! How did that come about?
I was invited on a Youthworks HSC Study Camp by a couple of Christian friends. I went along with no concrete beliefs about the world or purpose or why we are here, but God opened my heart and mind and allowed the initiation of belief, questioning and understanding.
In the talks every afternoon I would hear about broad concepts involving life and Christianity, what it meant to be a Christian, how to become a Christian, the Christian way to live. I was definitely intrigued by the latter subject, for to me it just made so much sense.
I agreed with what was said – that was the way I wanted to live!
I could also see the impact God had on my friends in my room group – He was so real to them. I could tell they had something I didn’t.
I was invited to FNC and have been going ever since, becoming more and more involved. Attending Confirmation Classes last year helped a great deal with my growth and development as a Christian.
I wouldn’t put becoming a Christian down to a defining moment but a gradual process with lots of learning (which is still happening and I think will always will).

What do you do during the week?
Lots of things! Uni mostly (Civil Engineering degree at UTS) but I also play basketball, coach a basketball team, lead at JAM on Friday nights, lead at SYC on Sunday mornings, go to SWAC’s Crowded House sessions, work at Bakers’ Delight down at Emu Plains. I’m part of the music team at FNC, go to gigs when I can, see friends, spend time with family, and around all this I somehow fit in my assignments for uni.

What’s your favourite food?
I normally say ice-cream but it’s winter so I’m more in the mood for home-made soup with crusty bread. Mmmm.

What are you reading in the Bible at the moment?
Leviticus (I’ve just finished Genisis and Exodus) but have also been going through Colossians with my uni bible study group.

What else are you reading at the moment?
Barbara Hughes’s Disciplines of a Godly Woman, Philip Yancey’s What’s So Amazing About Grace?, and Pacey’s Rainwater Harvesting in Turkana (it’s for an assignment – honest).

What’s the best thing about being a Christian?
The awesome and encouraging community that I find myself a part of. It’s what being a Christian is all about – having relationships that are modelled by the word of God.
We’re not perfect in this, but as we strive for the common goal to be pleasing in the Lord’s sight and with the common hope of something better than this world and an eternity with our loving creator, we are all united and we are all one huge family – such an amazing community to be actively involved in. :D
