Last night we did things at FNC in a mildly interactive style.
Nothing too radical, but the opportunity in the talk for those present to contribute and guide the application of the passage. We were looking at bits of Philippians in terms of the way it relates to Paul’s first visit to Philippi back in Acts 16.

At the end of February and early March Karen Darda (our CMS link missionary in Japan) is visiting SWAC churches and has been invited to preach on those occasions.
As this is a potentially divisive issue, Graham Crew has written a helpful letter to all members of SWAC about the issues to do with the heading of this post.
[more...]Some people might think we just pick a passage or a topic to preach on at FNC at random each week.
Not so!
Months, weeks er, lots of time and prayer goes into thinking through a pattern of preaching that over time, will cover as much of the Bible as possible.
In doing that, we make sure we do part of one of the gospels, at least one of the New Testament letters, and a good chunk of the Old Testament each year.

At my last church, the senior minister was moved one day to put up a sign over the door. As we left the building, it read, “You are now entering your mission field.” My mind took that simple sign I had seen lots of times and ran with it.
Where is the mission field? Is it really only outside the church? If the mission field is only “out there”, what does that say about me? Well, I am the one walking under the sign so that must mean that I am not part of the mission field. It’s those other people I meet outside the church who REALLY need Jesus…
